The most important thing you can do to insure your safety under any circumstance is to STAY ALERT and be aware of your surroundings.  

1. Locate your keys BEFORE you go out to your car.  
2. Stay alert to your surroundings.
3. Do NOT approach your car if there are suspicious looking people in the area.  
4. Do not leave any valuables or packages in your car.  If you must do so, place the items in your trunk.  Do not place the items in your car where others can see you.  
5. Do not leave your keys in the car.  
6. Do not leave the car running or children inside the car at any time.  
7. Make note of WHERE you parked.  
8. Don’t park next to vans and trucks or other vehicles with tinted windows.  
9. Keep your car doors and windows locked while in your car.  
10. Do not open your window or door when approached by someone on the street.
